What might a "land registry issue" be?.

Just as it says really. We have been told today that the bottom of our chain can't move because of land registry issues (we issued a possible completion date and after no confirmation or otherwise ovr a week later, with suggested date in a week and a half, we chased).
Solicitor said chase agent, agent chased buyer, they let on about these issues. Our sol said we could chase this, but I have little inclination to do so really, all I'm after is an agreed completion date, whether that be next week or in a month I don't mind- just need to plan some stuff around it and aren't signing anything till contract exchange.
So.... I guess my question is really, is there any particularly common issue that pops up with a "known" timeframe, So we can expect a reasonably achievable date from the bottom up, or is this a "how long is a piece of string" question?

A defect in the title? Boundary shown at land registry doesn't match the facts on the ground?

    There are 101 possibilities.

It might be resolved in a day ot two.

It might take a month or two.

It might result in the sale involved collapsing.

Without any specific details I suspect it is the 'how long is a piece of string scenario' you mention.

We had a "land registry issue" on the house we just completed on...basically it is on a private road and there was no mention of right of way over everyone else's part of the road, as well as part of the garden was unregistered. The road issue took about a week to sort out and we compromised on the garden issue and exchanged/completed anyway.
