im on my 5th dishwasher (long story) and couldnt live without it. there are 4 of us and its a necessity. my kids think its a novelty to wash up when we are away on holiday as they have never had to do it. same as with my tumble dryer as well though as i cant stand pegging washing out and it saves me time and ironing just bunging it in. im not lazy and work full time so i will buy anything that helps make my life easier (sc included) lol x0

I LOVE my dishwasher, its the 1 thing in my kitchen I definately could not do without. I'd give up the cooker before the dishwasher!
I detest washing up and so does DH, it used to mount up & up before either of us would do it, even when doing it reguarly it drove me nuts. So OH "treated" me to a dishwasher. Its even better since I learnt I could use cheap washing powder & vinegar in it with salt. This month I'm using surf washing machine tablets cut in half with vinegar & salt as someone left a box in the shop OH works in 2weeks ago & they've just been sitting in the office incase someone returned for them.
Now I have a 5month old its worth it even more as LO takes up so much of my time. & putting the dirty crocks in it makes the kitchen look so much tidier than having them stacked up on the side or drying on the drainer.
I used the machine with my Avent bottles & pump, its fine as long as you dont put anything too grubby or greasy in with it. Also tomatoe sauces can discolour the lids & teats. You cant take a step forward with both feet on the ground0 -
Up to date dishwashers use around 15 litres a cycle so that's not alot of water.
My de dietrich dishwasher is excellent (fingers crossed now!) and 14 years old - only gone wrong once and that was after the water board had had the road up and the pressure made it blow a valve or something when service was resumed  .
Never bothered with insurance and its well out of guarantee now!
I use aldi 4-in-1 or finish tablets usually, no messing about with salt, rinse-aid etc.
There's only 2 of us, but we get thru quite alot plates etc, stainless steel saucepans come up lovely. More or less only non-stick and baking trays to do by hand :T
Wouldn't be without one, everything is so clean and hygenic - no germ-laden tea towels in this house :wave:0 -
I got my first dishwasher just 4 weeks ago when we moved the washer out of the kitchen. It is now my favourite appliance:j
I bought extra crockery and cutlery and we just fill it after each meal etc, evenDS and DD will put their cups, glasses straight in it. I switch it on at bedtime and OH empties it when he gets home from nights each morning. The kitchen stays lovely and clean all the time and we have more time to relax after meals.I do a lot of baking and jam making and it is lovely to stick everything in and sit down instead of having to wash up sticky pans etc. It gets all the empty jam jars lovely and clean too:D I even did the fridge shelves last week.
Even OH is impressed and rates it second only to his TV drive thingy:rotfl:
Now i have had one I think I will always want one, even though I have managed the last 21 years without one:rolleyes:
The only thing I didn't like was the stale smell when it was being filled but I got one of those hanging things with lemon liquid stuff in and now it smells lovely all the time.

i dont have one, i moved here 8 years ago and had my mums old one but if broke down, we got married and was meant to use money to get one but for one reason or another did not. Was even given one but hubby said not enough room to plumb in so it was then put outside and then rusted and taken down the tip was annoyed with that as it was only 6 months old grr.
Hubby is building me a new kitchen and i dont care what he says it is my kitchen and i WILL be having a dishwasher in it. I hate washing up does my hands no good and i cant wear gloves cos that makes them worse. Seems washing up is forever ready to be done and sitting on the side.Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

Defo necessity:D
You will love how gorgeously sparkly your glasses come up - I live on my own and would not be without it.0 -
I timed it today, on an average day, no bulk baking etc I'm onto my 4th load of washing up and there will be more after suppers etc, I've done nearly an hour of washing up. If I'm wasting well over 365 hours of my life a year just on washing up, I'm definately looking into a dishwasher! Only problem I have now is where to put one. I have a space 40cm wide or take a cupboard out, I actually don't know if it's possible as it's a double cupboard, still then they are only 50 wideOne day I might be more organised...........

HOORAY!!
I'm allowed one, DH has even just gone to homebase to see about getting the bits to plumb one in. So excited:j
I've now got to decide which one.
Thank you all for your replies, I guess once I have one I won't be able to live without it!
Lil-me - I agree with the timing thing I must have spent at least an hour today doing bits and bobs - there is so much more to life! Whilst looking at dishwashers this pm :j they did have slimmer ones i guess to go into smaller spaces maybe one of those would fit.0 -

do it lil_me you will never look back.
no cupboard would ever win over my dishwasher:D0 -
I've been looking already, narrowest I have found is 45cm which is too big for that gap, I think the washer is as far back as it will go. I'll speak to DP and see if anyone knows if/how I can take the cupboard out. Downside of that route is rented house so need permission, could have put a freestanding in the other space if it wasn't so small..One day I might be more organised...........
