(Yet another) Howdens quote

Hi guys!

I wonder if anybody could help me work out whether I am getting a decent quote for this Howdens kitchen (current quote has come in from the fitter, so no idea of his markup).

The Howdens branch in Farlington were more than happý to quote me directlý and then I found a fitter to fit the units.

I may be stingy but would not pay or the dust mask trades should supply tools as part of the job not charge the client to buy them

That said you want to know if your quote is good but don't tell us what they have costed it at how can we compare

without even seeing the price, i doubt you are getting a good price as its howdens and they now sell things close to 45% mark up.

I also wouldn't be getting granite worktops from Howdens either. To do the job properly granite needs to be templated for, fabricated and fitted by a specialist and judging by your list it looks like they are supplying you with set size 'blanks'.

I suppose at some point Howdens kitchens must become reasonable for the money but certainly if you're not getting at least 70% of their fictitious 'list price' they certainly are not!

Any decent fitter should be more than capable of templating and fitting granite worktops....

Templating - yes.

Fitting - basic stuff also yes.

Fabrication - the real important stuff, making sure all the cutouts are perfect etc. No way.

Leave stone to the specialist fabricator to template, fabricate and fit is by far the better way.

The quote is £6,660, plus £850 fitting. No idea what discount has been applied.

Any other comments on using a general kitchen fitter to fit the Howdens granite worktop? So much cheaper from Howdens!

Whaddyareckon? Also, has anybody tried the new Howdens granite worktops?

Have you seen the quality of the kitchen from Howdens? Have looked anywhere else? Have you really got the best design for you and the space? Do you think it's good value?

There is a whole lot more to consider than just the price when deciding to replace your kitchen and really you're the one that needs to be sure you are getting exactly what is right for you design wise and that it's good value. And the only way you are going to be sure the Howdens kitchen is best for you is if you have done your research by shopping around.
