Soapstone kitchen worktops ?

Does anyone in the UK have these?

It appears to be common material used for countertops in the US but I've searched all over the web can't find any suppliers here. I did find one or two suppliers who provide raw material for sculpture purposes, but that's it.

I love the colour of soapstone and think they'd look great in our kitchen...when we get round to doing it up.

(also apologies for posting here...wasn't really sure where else it should go!)

    Hi

Soapstone is a bit unusual as worktops in the UK but wouldn't be a problem for any half decent independent kitchen specialist to source. It doesn't surprise me to hear that you are having trouble finding an online supplier as online companies don't innovate they just supply mass market stuff, where as independent kitchen specialists have to lead from the front and be able to things that others can't!

Not helpful about soapstone as such...but we sourced granite worktops from these people: http://www.cglgranitesales.com/
They are very reasonably priced, and have a colour / pattern range beyoned most granite suppliers.
I thought you might find them useful if you abandon the soapstone idea.

Not sure if they're referring to the same stuff, but the soapstone I've seen used for carving is very soft (hence the name) and would scratch easily in the kitchen.

  • Hi pinkpiglit,
We have just reserved a piece of soapstone for our worktops from Yes Granite (it won't let me post a link as I'm a new user but it's just that name with dot co dot uk on the end!)
We didn't know they carried soapstone as it's not advertised on their website but fell in love with it when we got to their showroom. We went to the Peterborough one and the guy who runs it was really helpful. Good luck!

That's good to hear - I shall look them up.

Do you mind if I ask whether it was more or less expensive than purchasing granite?
