Thanks guys for the rapid answers and probably a bit off topic but this PC that I fancy has a fairly big SSD and what looks like great spec, yet is so cheap in comparison to anywhere else, ie try Dell for instance is there a reason I should be aware of. I cannot seem to match this spec anywhere else for the same price let alone any less?

You could DIY for £230 Less (not including the operating system):

I would suggest though, if you mainly use it for work related activity (and you aren't a graphic designer or computer game writer) then that processer and graphics card are MASSIVE overkill for your needs.

You would probably find buying an SSD (min 128Gb) and sticking windows 8.1/10 on it and maybe adding another 4Gb ram to your current PC would be a total breath of fresh air

thanks guys but if I were to go for that PC why is that PC so cheap compared to anywhere else for the same spec?

I've bought Medion for years and it is always the same, the PC's seem great if you pick the right model (usually the highest Intel processor they have at the time within sensible prices range for me). They seem to come with many extras and top-ish spec but are always the cheapest, how come? I am always thinking I am missing something and that its cheap for a reason?

Buy in bulk and cut costs on the quality of the case, motherboard, memory type/speed, power supply, hard drive brand, all the bits you can't see that the everyday person doesn't compare.

Yes, this was exactly the case with my Medion. Obscure motheboard, PSU and graphic card, extremely noisy Seagate HDD that eventually failed under warranty.
The case was pretty decent though and I used it for building a new PC for my wife.

    Forgedaboudit.
You current spec is more than ample.
What is the full model number of the machine in question? It will be written on the plate at the back. Can check if more RAM can be added.
Samsung EVO 850 250 GB SSD will set you back around £78. Keep your 1.5TB as the secondary drive.
A clean install with a 64bit OS to the SSD and your problems will go away.
I'm still using my much lower spec Medion PC. It is now eight years old.
If yours is the MEDION AKOYA P7300 D( MD8838) it can take up to 8GB of RAM.
    (2GBx2) DDR2 PC2-5300 Unbuffered NON-ECC RAM £21.99
So you are looking at no more than £100 to bring it up to spec.. Clean up the insides and it will fly with the upgrades fitted.

Not that you would notice. Also far more time consuming, essentially have to re-build from scratch. Sticking an SSD in and more memory is a 10 minute task.

    No need.

Though we will likely look for a suitable firmware update. I think there is one for that board. Check when you get home.
Reboot your system, when the bios logo is displayed press TAB key, you should see the BIOS identification string. Post it.
