am finally succumbing to the thohght of a dryer
have no idea in which direction to be guided
any advice would be welcome

Welcome to MSE. Try this link for dryer advice. The forum there is made up of largely engineers and they know which ones go wrong all the time.....

Hi , I can thoroughly recommend mine, I've had it for two years now without incident and its A rated for energy efficiency ( very unusual for tumble dryers). Its made by White Knight and the model number is (if I'm reading the booklet right) a CL 847. Hope this helps, best wishes from Jandy0
