Card Fraud

in Credit cards
Hello,
I may have posted in the wrong area so I apologies if so.
Basically last week I noticed a large sum of money coming out of my bank when I looked at my online banking. I check my mobile banking app pretty much every day to keep an eye on bills so I knew something was suspicious straight away. I couldn't work out what was coming out so I phoned my bank. An automated voice asked for my card number so I reached for my purse and that's when I noticed my card was gone. I called my bank again and managed to get through to someone using my mobile banking details and told them my card was gone and there was a suspicious amount was coming out my bank.
I was told straight away that someone had charged over £400 to my card to buy airline tickets in Hong Kong.
I informed the bank that the last time I had used my card was a few days previous in a shopping centre. Unfortunately I had a slight accident where I dropped conditioner all over the floor as I was packing it away after paying on card and don't know whether this contributed to my card going missing but I was still clueless to how this had happened.
The bank told me it looked like an obvious case of fraud and they cancelled my card and sent me out a new card and pin which I received today.
I had heard nothing back from my bank after they said they would be investigating last week so I called them back today (just by chance on my birthday!). The first person I spoke to said the fraud team had accepted it as fraud 2 days ago (and still hadn't chose to get in touch with me!).
They said the money was still pending when I called up last week so they couldn't act until it had come out but now it has, they could go through another process. They are sending me out forms for me to fill out and I've been told to expect a call from the fraud team within the next 2 days.
What is going on? I'm worried I'm not going to get my money back even though I did not commit the fraud.
Any advice please?

I shouldn't worry. Sounds like normal procedure to me. I think I remember having to fill in a form one of the times one of my cards was used fraudulently.Grateful to finally be debt free!0

Was it a debit card or a credit card?
If it was a credit card, then don't worry. It's not your money that's gone. Eventually the transaction will be reversed.
If it was a debit card, then really they should reverse the transaction pending the investigation. Else you could be in a situation of DDs bouncing etc.0 -
It was a direct debit card.0

I had to wait like you til the money had come out of my account, then a few days later I got a refund from the fraud team, if you're worried just call them and ask what's going on, and they should be able to give you some cash if you need any in branch. Sorry this happened to you, it's horrible to see your money disappearing like that.0

I think with direct debits if they haven't completely emptied your accounts my bank (HSBC) said they should still go through its only your card being stopped.0

The OP has confused this thread by referring to a debit card as a direct debit card, I'm not really sure why people do this but it does seem to be quite a common mistake. As it is there hasn't actually been any genuine mention of direct debits, and indeed you're right that they won't be affected by a card cancellation.0 -
Ah sorry. Yes it's a debit card.0
