Sold xbox console - what packaging required to send?

Hi,
Thanks for any help that can be provided.
I sold an xbox one on ebay today and had thought I had a box to send the console in (An outer box to that actual box that the console came in) but unfortunately this does not seem to be the case.
Would I be ok to put some plain paper on the outside of the console box. In theory their should be enough protection in that box for most knocks encountered along the way but I am not totally sure.
That said, when I receive anything from Amazon, there is so much space around the outer box that it can only add so much protection from heavy knocks in any case.
Thanks.

Whenever sending anything like that it's best to make sure it's as secure and as well packaged as possible. Better to use too much than not enough. If you're not sure then add more. Make sure the console can't move inside the box.
Couriers aren't always too careful with packages so make sure that you not only package it well but that you are covered if it were to be damaged or go missing.0 -
I've found a box that was used for a Kenwood food processor which the xbox one console box fits in, its a tight fit but still enough room for some paper to be added in for some protection as well.
I'll cover that with some plain paper (At this stage it might be the reverse side of some christmas wrapping paper) so that its not blatantly obvious what is inside.
While not ideal, I think this, along with the appropriate barcoding etc being affixed should be enough to make sure it gets there ok. The kenwood food processor was delivered in the box itself so I am assuming I don't even need to cover the box with paper strictly speaking but I guess it won't hurt too much even if it doesnt look the tidiest.
Thanks for your help Flyonthewall, this is my first time sending something of this size, so a little bit anxious to do as good a job as I can.0 -
Personally, I think I'd probably try and find a slightly bigger box and place that box into it with extra packaging if there's not much room for packaging in the first box (especially if has no affect on the price of sending it). It's not the cheapest item and it could be damaged quite easily.
Did you advertise that the console came with (part of) the original packaging? If so, you may have an unhappy buyer.
It may seem like a small thing, but it may be wanted and people do pay a bit more sometimes if an item is advertised as coming in the original packaging (especially if they plan on giving it as a gift).0 -
I explained myself badly.
It is packaged in the Official Xbox One packaging, that box is then inside the Kenwood packaging which was a bigger box, with the paper padding. So the buyer is getting the official box with some extra padding on top of it.
It wasn't advertised with original packaging so I haven't left myself open on that front.
I think all in all I have done an ok job on the packaging but it wasn't ideal. I'd hoped to send it in an Amazon box that i thought was perfect sized.
Again, thanks for the help.0 -
Ahh, that's alright then

Paper on the outside is not a good idea- best to use a very strong parcel tape .
Once boxed make sure you are happy to drop it from waist height onto a concrete floor- if you can do that then you should be fine.
Have you a courier lined up for it and is it covered in case of loss or damage, and is it tracked to point of delivery?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Good point. I've used packing paper before which has been fine, but that's thicker and I still used lots of tape. Other paper, especially Christmas wrapping paper, is likely to tear quite easily.
You could put the address on the box as well as the outside. Then if it did rip at least they'll still have an address.0 -
I decided against the paper on the outside, felt it was too likely to be ripped off in transit.
For ease of use I am going with Parcel Force as I can drop it to my local Post Office, I really can't be taking time off to wait for couriers to collect, and it will be tracked to the door. For something as valuable as this I wasn't going to take any chances.
I've taped the outside of the box quite a bit but I will do some more in the morning before dropping off.
Thanks again guys. I kind of hope this is the last thing I ever send of this size. I like selling games but its more anxiety inducing sending something like this for the first time.0
