Limestone or hardwood flooring?

Options
I am not sure whether to go for Limestone tiles in our lounge and kitchen or hardwood flooring?

Any downsides to these?

Also where is the best place to buy quality hardwood flooring from? thanks.

I think tiles in a lounge would be a bit funny.

It is personal taste. I have seen an entire house laid with tiles, it looked very modern but a bit too clinical for my taste - the guy was a dentist. I guess you know limestone tiles will be colder underfoot? Natural stone limestone tiles, need to be sealed to avoid staining. Hardwood is not good if you are likely to spill water in your kitchen.

Tiles would be harder wearing, if you have small kids ......................... or any other pets

Have oiled oak flooring throughout my ground floor including kitchen, conservatory, lounge, dining and family room. Does get dusty but can be reoiled and as long as it is swept /vacuumed (I have a Sebo vacuum cleaner which copes well with wood floors) rarely looks as dirty as it is. My utility room ,which is limestone tiles , has to be constantly washed.
  • Hi I would recommend these to you. We had our flooring from here, competitive prices (cheaper than most!) They know their stuff, and excellent customer service! (No I don't work there ;-) )Click here: Unfinished Engineered Oak Flooring

B&Q have an offer on (locally anyway) with 20% off solid oak flooring - 15cm width - around £27/m2 .
And if you take a pensioner with you on a Wednesday, you get another 10% off!!

My friend has limestone flooring covering the whole of her open plan downstairs area (its huge). I don't like it. I love limestone flooring for just a kitchen, but hers looks very cold and hard. Even on a sunny day, it feels like you are walking into a cave!
I am hoping to have the limestone flooring put down in our kitchen when its done, but one of my friends (not same one!) did some tests - she bought some tiles, had them sealed and then started sloshing tea, beetroot etc etc over them. They stained. Even with them being sealed. She has gone for ceramic now instead. Looks lovely.
Personally I love wood for hallway, lounge, and limestone/ceramic (whatever!) for kitchen, poss hallway.
Good luck. Its so hard trying to make the right choice. I'm having trouble with my kitchen. Why is there so much choice??!
