Thanks.

You'll need a phone, some cash and the yellow pages.

Skimming isn't a DIY job. Plastering yes, skimming no.

I never touch anything to do with plastering... I tried it once, took me 4 hours to do part of a small section of wall, and it ended up lumpy and falling off...

Got a plasterer in to sort it out, it took him three hours to do the whole wall (spread accross a couple of visits) and the result was flawless...

Plastering is one of those "black magic/voodoo" things that should be best tackled with a telephone and a handful of cash...

    I disagree,

I have successfully plastered a few walls and I did it by following the advice here-

Basically buy a bag or two of finishing plaster and some PVA, plus a plasterers trowel and a hawk and a bucket and you are away.

It won't cost you much for the stuff and so if you make a mess of it you can always get a pro and have it skimmed over.

You will never know unless you try!

I've done a bit too. and my day job is sitting at a desk so if I can then you probably can.....

I did just the reveals (the bit around the windows) to make them good after double glazing fitted. It's not easy but it's do-able. Tip. I had a large piece of damaged plasterboard in the shed, left over from a different project so I practised on that, both sides, to get the hang of it. Go easy on it, do the prep work properly and don't put it on too thickly....
Planning to do a larger area on the landing next... :)

    Thanks.
We have managed to strip all the paint off the plaster board and it does not look too bad, although some parts will need skimming.
  • I know this is digging up an old thread but I'm going to have a bash at skimming a bedroom I'll let you know how it turns out
Nothing to see here, move along.
