Hi

Over the last few years I have neglected my garden - 2 young kids and other stuff does not help and it gets knocked down the priority list.

So I have decided to give some more time to it and have started my looking at the lawn, which is parched to say the least. So each week I will be posting a picture of what the state of my lawn is and what, if anything I have done.

I am no expert and have little gardening experience so I am looking at you good people to give me some hints and tips please....:)

So today I have 'fed' the lawn with some miracle gro soluble lawn food. The last picture I took this afternoon is below

Any tips and hints of next steps would be much appreciated. Next pic next Thursday

Thanks

The time of year isn't ideal, but I'd resow the bare patches. Feeding is no good if there's not grass...

NB You don't say what time of day the picture was taken, but the lawn seems to be heavily shaded which won't help. Those two conifers on the left will also suck moisture out the ground - I'd consider getting rid.

Picture was taken around 6pm. The garden is south facing so gets plenty of sun.

The bare patches were not there a few weeks ago - seem to have just died on me over the last few weeks of hot weather even though I have watered it plentiful

forgot to post on Thursday......had a wet week so not been up to much with the lawn. Last friday I took upon wallbash's suggestions and hand aerated the lawn, just before the rain started on saturday and kept going till tuesday. I gave the lawn a trim as it was really long

I will look into borrowing a aerating machine and someone mentioned scaryfying which i need to look into - not sure what that does....

    So we have thatch.
You need to hire a machine to remove it. ..scaryfying
You have a lot and a reasonable size lawn and you want a nice lawn.

Raking to remove that amount is going to be tough, hire the machine. Get it done this month. Then reseed next month.
