Bad workmanship at garage. Where do I stand?

Hi.

On Monday I had a totally new front brake set up fitted to my car; calipers, discs, pads, lines the lot. I provided all of the items to the garage that I had purchased over the course of a few months. The brakes were fitted behind some new (less than a month old) wheels.

The next day, on the Dual Carriageway I heard a bit of a bang then when I applied the brakes, the car pulled violently to the left. I managed to get the car to a safe place and stopped. On inspecting the car, the drivers side brake caliper was hanging off.

I called the garage out who looked at the car and identified a bolt that had come loose. They have held their hands up to causing the damage and are rectifying the situation whilst I am away on holiday next week.

My question is, as I drive for work and work for myself, can I expect the garage to re-imburse me for my loss of earnings or to refund the original cost of the work carried out?

Thanks.

Refund the cost of the work done in the first place NO. They did the work although possibly failed to correctly torque a bolt. The issue is that you supplied the parts so they could have said the parts you supplied were faulty or mismatched and left you with nothing but risking your chances in court.

Hire a car then there is no loss of earnings, just the cost of hiring a car. Can they offer a loan vehicle?

If you are away on holiday next week you wont be losing anything there.

I'd be amazed if the garage didn't offer courtesy vehicle in these circumstances.
