Hi , I've had a few phonecalls from a strange number and it turns out to be capquest , from what I can see they are some sort of debt collection agency .
I have had some problems in the past , but everything on my credit report has now dropped off earlier this year .
I can only think they are chasing me for one of these old debts , I did get a few letters year's ago (standard we may , we could garbage)
which went in the bin .
The number that kept ringing I have blocked now , and they then sent a text message with a reference number . I have no idea how they found my number by the way .
My question is - Do I ignore them and they will get bored , or is there any way they can do any damage to my credit file ?

  • Personally, I never discuss financial matters over the phone, with anyone, no matter who they claim to be.

If you are sure the debt is statute barred then send them a cease and desist letter. Otherwise ignore the calls and text. On an Android mobile you can reject calls from certain numbers

Yes I've blocked them , however I wouldn't want any nasty surprises popping up on my credit file , the defaults have come off now and it's well over the 6 year period , I just don't want to contact them and resurrect the default , and I definitely don't want them to pull a fast one and reinstate anything if I ignore them ......
  • Have you moved house, during the life of these debts?

    Yes I have just over 3 year's ago .
  • And have you notified your bank, and creditors?

Everyone who I deal with on a day to day basis has my new address , so they must have shared info I'm guessing ?
I am in a better financial position now , and don't mind paying what I owe , however from what I am reading about them they are chancers who have bought the debt for peanuts and are now harassing me to make a massive profit , do they have any sort of powers , or do I ignore them ? I just do not want anything back on my credit report , and if that means not paying and ignoring that's what I will do ?

If the debt is statute barred then you owe them nothing. Check you credit file (Noddle is free) to see if Capquest have registered a default. If they have then complain to them. If you are 100% sure the debt is statute barred then write them one cease and desist letter by recorded delivery.
