Help me v parkingeye

I went fishing with my friend, we went to town quay in southampton. We drove round the car park and there were no "green zone" spaces, so i drove back round and there were none. I decieded to stop in a "red zone" because it was in the best spot to fish. I didnt leave my car at all, the engine was on the whole time and we sat in the car( only he fished). Just got a parking charge through the post, we were ther 2 hours 29 mins. I know it was stupid but there were no other spaces and the whole of the red zone was empty anyway, so i didnt think anything of it. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.:)
