Where do I stand with replace/repair

My macbook is approximately 3 months old. Its a fantastic piece of kit. However its started shutting itself down. Googling this suggests its a known problem and I'll need the mainboard replaced. This would seem a major repair. Can I ask for a replacement instead of a repair?
Thanks

Yes, return to the store you bought it from with evidence that the item is inherently faulty (print the pages or people moaning about the model you have) and claim that the sales of goods act states
If it is a common fault then it is inherently faulty. The store is legaly obbliged to provide a solution either repair, replace or refund with as little disruption to the customer. Ty may offer to repair, in which case you would be suffering due to lack of use of he laptop for the repair period so you won't be happy, arn't you going on holiday in a few days and need your laptop?Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).
;)
Good luck with it and stick to your guns.0 -
Thats a real shame about your macbook,
I have a macbook pro and its the best thing since convertying from windows in April.
Hopefully apple will be able to sort you out with a new laptop0 -
Ah nothing against the mac - its my second notebook - I'm cursed with the things - my last a Dell did have an inherent fault.Got a 3 year warranty though. I'll see how long it takes them to sort.0
