Question regarding listing items on Amazon

I have been looking through various instructions on how to start selling on Amazon using FBA and I have to admit that I have got a bit confused about listing items for the first time.
So, if I have an item to sell that is identical to something already being sold or has been sold in the past on Amazon by someone else, can I use the pictures and description that is already on a database at Amazon or have I the option to start from scratch and use my own description and photos?
Next question, do I have to start from scratch with my own photo and description if I intend to sell an item that has not been featured on Amazon before? Sorry, I haven't put that very well, what I'm trying to ask, is there a set template that I can use that is supplied by Amazon which I must use?
Thanks and apologies for the ramble.

If you input the EAN and there is another product there, check it's the same one (there are some odd things which go on with some sellers) and if it is you list on that listing (using the description and photos that are there). If it isn't listed, then it will ask you to complete all the sections.0

As above really. The EAN is the number under the barcode on the product.
If you put that number in the Amazon search box the product will come up. If you then look over at the far right of the screen there should be a button to push with "sell yours here" on it.
You'll only need to put in new details if the product isn't in the system.
If your product doesn't have an EAN or has a different one to the product you have found then you might need to list a new one. It may be a product that a seller has branded themselves and is not entirely the same as yours.
If you have found the right EAN but think something is wrong within the description then you would need to provide evidence to Amazon that it is incorrect and amend it. When listing you should be given the option to add your own photo if you wish..0
