Round the World Travel Insurance

Options
Hi

I'm due to be going on a round the world trip and wondered if anybody might know of some good/ cheap insurers? I've tried Moneysupermarket but they only seem to do multi-trip annual insurance which has a set number of days per trip. It really needs to be a single trip/ annual insurance. Any help greatly appreciated as the more I can save on insurance, the more time I get to spend away!!

Thank you.

I assume that you are in gap year or similar and want cover for an extended period. If so try google search on "backpacker travel insurance" and certainly check our "insure and go" who are the very competitive market leader for this.

When I did my round the worlder I actually got my cover from Natwest. Surprisingly they did work out the cheapest by about £100 - £150. Total cost of cover for 12 months was about £200. However they were offering a 10% discount to those on their graduate account. BTW this was back in 2002.

I found them fine. I had to make a couple of claims when I got back to the UK, followed the procedures and they paid up promptly without much hassle.

Like Maclean said, check out "backpacker insurance", loads of companies do it but have a good look around for what you want in the policy. If you get a real basic one you can save a lot of money but then if anything does go wrong you are on your own, so you have to weigh up your options. STA offers a good deal and you might want to try Navigator Insurance too, with their gold policy you get free excess waiver for 6mths+ policies! Good luck and have a fantastic time...it will be the experience of a lifetime!!
