Does Neighbourhood Watch reduce insurance premium?

Had a leaflet from the local police suggesting that insurance reductions are to be had for belonging to a neighbourhood watch (NW). I belong to NW but have never been asked by my insurers and never thought to tell them. All I have to prove my 'membership' is a window sticker. Do insurers really give a discount for belonging to NW? I presume the police meant household insurance rather then motor insurance.

Most dont, I have seen the question asked very occasionally and so it appears some are (or at least were considering it hence data gathering). The one I vaguely remember had multiple answers such as no, yes but not active or yes and active member.

I have been asked by insurers but non-membership has never affected the premium. But we don't live in a "hood" so obviously have no neighbours to watch or be watched by.

I suspect it's a bit like window locks. If you live in a risky area insurers will expect them as a matter of course, but if you don't, they don't care.

Probably highlights that the area has very serious crime problems to the point the police have seen fit to spend money setting one up.

According to confused.com - some do.

Yes, indeed it could. Virtually all home insurance providers ask if the policy holder is a member of a Neighbourhood Watch scheme. However, at the time of writing, not all provide a significant discount for members. But many do!


I guess they mean home rather than motor. Your home is always in your neighbourhood - your car isn't.

Personally I'd rather have nosy neighbours than those who "keep themselves to themselves" and notice nothing.
