Right, well it's been years since I dabbled in DOS and I've completely forgotten how I go about this, if indeed I need DOS at all.
What I want to do is to create an executable icon on my Win 7 Desktop that I can double click to carry out a simple copy paste/overwrite procedure for one file ... i.e. Copy C:\location1\rhubarb.cfg to C:\location2\ and overwrite the old rhubarb.cfg file already in location2.

Open a notepad and save as filename.bat
Then write:
Copy /Y c:\location1\file.name c:\location2
The /Y switch will suppress prompting to confirm overwrite in new location.0 -

<pedant mode> In a BATch file, the /Y switch for the COPY command is not needed, since overwrites occur without a prompt.0
