I dropped the wife off so that she could go to the library and stayed in a nearby car park not realising it was a Pay and Display.
My wife came back after 10 minutes and off we went.
i have just received a notice for £90 for non payment of car park fee. (reduced to £45 if paid within 14 days.)
I am happy to pay a fair price but this does seem excessive. Do i have to pay this?
It was private land and the car parking company are Smart Parking

You don't have to pay it. It's little different to an invitation to send money to a Nigerian Government Official so that he can use your bank account to deposit £millions.
You can ignore a Nigerian phishing email, but we don't advise ignoring a Private Parking Charge, but to fight it - we do provide you with the 'tools' to deal with it. You will find guidance in the NEWBIES FAQ sticky at the top of the forum thread list one page back from this one.
Read through it carefully - you can't skim read it, otherwise you could miss some important bits. This should see you through to kicking this charge permanently into touch.
If there's anything you don't understand come back for advice. However you will get most help from regulars if they see you are making use of the sticky.Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
