Mobility Car Question

Just a quick update (incase it helps anybody else in the future) My mum did phone Mobility and spoke to a very nice and understanding lady. As this is her first experience they told her she can go ahead and change the car free of charge, to say she is relieved would be an understatement ! So now she is, with great care and attention, looking at other cars and with the additional hindsight of what is really important to her physical needs. I think she has certainly learnt how crucial it is to consider everything. They did say if there were any outstanding parking tickets she would have to pay them herself, we reassured them that parking is something she definitely did not do !

Many thanks to all who helped with advice, thank you.

It might be worth looking at Vauxhall - they put rear parking sensors on all their motability cars as standard.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

All my motability cars have come with rear parking sensors as standard and i've never had a vauxhall through the scheme. Tbh i was surprised the OP's mum found one without them.

Just a thought, don't know if this is relevant to the OP's mum or not
But there are Mobility assement Centres out there where detailed guidance on adaptations that may be suitable for people considering a new vehicle

    the web address is

Out of three motability cars the Vauxhall was the only one with parking sensors. Neither the Citroen nor the Peugeot did/does.

I have arthritis in my neck and limited mobility and do struggle to turn my head to reverse.. I've just ordered a swap for a Kia as my car needs to be given back.. it sounds stupid but I didn't know parking sensors existed! I might call them and ask if I can get one with those instead.
Many thanks to all who contribute on MSE :)

Depends upon the age really as my four year old Citroen has and my brother month old Quashqui has front and rear .

My Citroen C3 was 8 years ago but I've just looked and rear parking sensors are currently an optional extra. The Pegueot is coming up to three years old.

I'm looking at Vauxhall for my next car and parking sensors aren't standard, especially for the bottom of the range, although as I said they do put them on motability cars.

  • My Qashqai has 360 degree cameras, rather than beeping sensors, and this has been invaluable for me in reducing twisting and turning, and easing the pressure on my spine. It's more than 2 years old now, and I'll definitely be looking for something with similar capabilities.

Glad the OP's mam now has the chance to find a suitable car.

I used to be Starrystarrynight on MSE, before a log in technical glitch!
