Do I need a new fridge freezer? Help please

I damaged my fridge today, something fell from the top shelf onto the white plastic part in front of the salad drawer. It has taken a chunk out of the plastic, as if I have thrown a huge kitchen knife into a chunk of wood is the only way I can describe it. It seems quite deep and isn't just a dent.
I will see if the temperature remains in the morning, if so will it be OK or could it still 'leak' and become faulty? if I need a replacement would I be more cost effective in claiming my household insurance or just going and buying a new one?
I can't hang about if I need a replacement....first baby due in 3 weeks so the fridge is going to be essential for bottles.
Many thanks
