Extended warranty problem with Amazon

Options
I brought some garden tools from Amazon over a year ago which came with manufacturer 5 year warranty. One of the tools broke and I tried to claim for replacement via their online chat and they are insisting they only cover 1 year for all goods brought through Amazon and told me to go to the manufacturer as it no longer their problem and wouldn't accept otherwise.

I think this is wrong as the Sale of Goods Act 1979 would imply they are responsible for up to 6 years isn't that right? A lot of people could have been wrongly turned down by Amazon if they are wrong?

Thoughts appreciated

After 6 months you would need to provide Amazon with proof that the tools were inherently faulty. For garden tools this would most likely be unrealistic. Your best bet will be to utilise the manufacturer's warranty.

Also to note that the 6 years comes from the Limitations Act - which is a piece of UK legislation. When you buy from amazon, you're buying from a company based in luxembourg under the legislation of that country, not UK legislation.

While amazon will have to adhere to luxembourgs version of SoGA, the rights may differ significantly from when you buy from a UK company. Most notably the 6 years given by the limitations act since the EU directive (which gives us soga consumer rights) only demands member states allow a period of 2 years.

Amazon do not cover manufacturers warranties, manufactures do. Amazon are correct.
