Poor Signal Caused by Old Handset?

Hi Guys

I have a Nokia 6300 handset that I've used for about 8 years. Before I moved last October I had no problems using my phone but since moving about 5 miles away, I often get a poor signal or dropped calls and it's quite frustrating. Can an old handset cause this problem? I have spoken to Tesco Mobile and they've said that there are no problems in the area with the cell towers, etc. A few months ago they gave me a new SIM card and that seemed ok for a couple of months.

I'm willing to get an iphone but I don't want to do so and then find that I'm still experiencing the same problems because maybe the issue is the area and not the phone as I didn't have this problem before I moved.

I would appreciate your knowledgeable input.

By 'old', do you meant the age or the model?
If the model, then, theoretically, yes, but in fact older Nokia models were famous for good reception.
And, unless the phone is faulty, the age is unlikely to affect the reception.

Your handset is 2g only.
iPhone will be 3g-4g.
3/4g signal is unlikely to be better than 2g in the same area, so you definitely need to do some research by asking neighbours or borrowing a modern unlocked phone.
If the signal is not good, nothing stops you from switching your provider to the one with the best signal in your area.
