No log book
About 2 months ago we purchased a car with the intention of giving it to a friend who was in desperate need of transport. It's been a bit of a nightmare as on the day after purchase the power steering started to fail, resulting in numerous expensive garage trips, and finally the purchase of a new steering column and getting it fitted. We also had to replace a wheel baring and there's still an oil leak!
The log book still hasn't arrived from DVLA, we contacted them a few weeks ago and we're told that there was an error on the address, that it would be resent and with us in 7-10 days, that was now 14 days ago.
My friend is now away for summer from Friday and I'm desperate to hand the car over to her. It's already cost us a lot more than anticipated and the longer we have the more we pay in tax and insurance. The MOT also runs out at the end of August so we'd have to take it off road or pay for that also
DVLA have said we can transfer ownership with out the log book by writing to them stating the new keepers details but I don't understand how that could work in terms of taxing the car? DVLA are shut now and I wondered if anyone had any ideas.

you dont need the log book to tax the car, just MOT and insurance0

According to the .gov website to tax the car you need either the reminder letter or a New keepers certificate ( which will be in our name rather than hers). The other option is a V62 which is to apply for a new log book but that costs £25 and I really don't want to spend out more, Especially when it's DVLA who haven't pulled their finger out.0
