I think you've misunderstood.

The kitchen is in the lounge area - the thicker white wall that backs onto the bedroom.

I think you're looking at what I presume is...storage? In the (rather large, given the rest of the flat!) hallway. So no one enters into the kitchen from outside the flat.

OP - is this storage? And is it actually useful? And what plumbing is there for washing machines/dishwashers etc. And how much useable worktop in the kitchen? It does look very small!

(You couldn't have a toilet directly off a kitchen these days.)
