Am I alone in not ever wanting presents for birthdays (or for Christmas for that matter). Not that I care really!

And a very happy birthday to OP of course, enjoy!!

No, definitely not alone. I'd rather have an experience like going out for a meal or a day out. That's what we've decided amongst my friends and family now and same at Christmas for all but small children. I do like to get a card though and I always enjoy flowers.

I'm fortunate in that I can afford to treat myself to whatever I might want and I certainly don't want anyone buying me 'stuff' just for the sake of it.

Thank you for your birthday wishes! Sorry I didn't post sooner, I have spent a lovely evening with my grandma. A really nice way to start my birthday :D I worked last year and it was awful, so have taken tomorrow and Friday off.

I posted on the old style board cos this is the littler corner of the Internet where I feel most comfortable :) i love days out too like a couple of you have mentioned already, and tomorrow will most likely be spent in the city, people watching ( great hobby - is it just me who makes up stories and scenarios about people in my head? What they're doing, where they're going etc?!) :rotfl:

I'm thinking a good cooked breakfast is the way to go :T at the moment I'm wishing for nothing, would just feel guilty that the money should have been spent on debts anyway!

Thank you all for your messages again

It's just another day, no different from the one before or the day after.

I struggle with this every year. I don't want anthying but by saying so I realise that I deny my beloved family the pleasure of buying me a gift, which they really love doing. So I tend to tell them (more or less subtly) what I would like, and it is always useful stuff. For example DS knows I "love" socks, so that's the standard Christmas gift from him, and I don't buy socks for the year! I have had darning needles, frying pans, you name it.

I buy DH good quality tools and he always loves them.

The kids are adults now so they get money. it is a good way to help them without making them feel dependent from us parents.

A birthday card from OH. I might make a birthday cake to share with my nieces for them to blow out a candle (Age 4 they can't imagine a birthday without candles)

OH and I go out for dinner on approximately a monthly basis, that month, we'll make a point of saying 'happy birthday', maybe upgrade the restaurant a bit, or maybe not.

I don't like or need for stuff. OH in the past has bought me glasses and a le creuset frying pan. We live in a small apartment, space is at a premium. I might treat myself to coffee out on the day or a plant/potted herb. In the first years of courtship, it was red roses (which I don't really like) - he's over that now :D

    Happy Birthday!

Hope you're having a lovely birthday, OP

    :bdaycake:

If I wanted a treat I would go to a concert or to the theatre, but normally I would prefer to spend time with people, maybe eat home made birthday cake, go for a walk or for a picnic and just relax and build happy memories of the day.

I don't think I would have fond memories if I spent the day trudging from shop to shop and spending money.

I can't really afford much and most people I know are like many, financially are having to watch the pennies at the moment.
In the past I used to go out for meals, buy in something but I gradually stopped it as it was getting too pricey.
I will probably take some cakes to church to celebrate and see what I can do.

I don't really expect or want much and find like Christmas its all got a bit over commercialized.

We love a Birthday in our house! I decorate with banners and balloons for everyone! I re use the same banner :D

Open cards and any gifts we are lucky enough to have in the morning. This year I had my free JL coffee and cake and went to the theatre in the evening.

We always have cake! Homemade of sorts (those dried packets that look like flour) decorated with chocolate :rotfl:. My children are 7 & 4 so they love all the fuss made on everyones Birthday.

I beg to differ with the cheery soul further up;) it is different to the day before and the day after. It's a celebration of you being here! Lifes to short not to be thankful for every year you have.
