Having a wife who has a habit of losing cards, normally throwing them out with receipts, then the Cap1 method of a single card number is a pain as they cannot cancel just one card but have to cancel all of them.

AmEx, Barclays etc having separate numbers, being able to track spend by card, cancel one but not all, individual passwords etc all make much more sense to me.

Yes - I had this problem with my MBNA. I misplaced my AmEx (I'm sure it will turn up in a jacket pocket any day now), so I thought I would cancel and get a new one. I had to get a full new set of 4 cards (2 x AmEx and 2 x Visas). That was annoying. But I do prefer accounts with the same number normally, as when booking hotels/orders to collect it means I can just book on the card closest to me at the time and either of us can collect with their own card.
  • Tesco cards have identical numbers.
Grateful to finally be debt free!

Throwing out receipts is not a very MSE thing to do, I'd have thought you'd have got her trained in the right way to do things (although even as a bachelor I realise that normally the training goes the other way...).

I dont keep receipts other than for business expenses or material purchases. In restaurants/ bars etc I will leave them on the table.

She on the other hand has two habits, she accepts receipts from everyone that offers her one and secondly she gets her card out, puts her purse away, pays and then stuffs receipt and card loose into either bag or pocket. Every few days/ once a week there is then a mass clear out of receipts and unfortunately a card is occasionally lost in the process (or she forgets which bag/ coat/ jeans she had on one day so incorrectly says its been lost).

I've never seen the point of keeping the £1.50 till receipt and card receipt for my breakfast. I can look on my statements and know I do almost the same thing every mon-fri and if my apple is rotten or such I am not going to take it back and demand a refund
