Electron Card Problem

in Credit cards
I have just tried to book 6 different flight for family members going to visit relatives abroad and noticed that BMI Baby charge you for each transaction when you use a credit/debit card, but an electron card is free to use? How can I get an electron card to beat these charges? I am currently a Lloydstsb Gold Debit Card holder and Platinum Credit Card holder but I refuse to be ripped-off by these unfair charges! Can anyone offer advice?

Sam,
Its funny that there are many postings from electron holders grumbling about their cards and complaining they cant get a "real" card. Yours is the first I have seen in revers!
Anyway, many of the "basic" bank accounts provide electron cards. I know Halifax provide one (it used to be called cardcash account I believe). Anyway its the basic banking account, no overdraft or check book or reporting to creidt agencies. There are probably others as well.0 -
I know what you mean Easyjet are the same, just never got round to finding out if I can have one on my standard LTSB chq acc.0

Thanks for the replies, I think I will pay my bank a visit and request one, just hope they don't say my credit check is to good and I can't have one! That would be embarassing! I will let you know how I get on.0

Hi Sam, if it is LTSB you bank with you will have a problem they stopped issuing Electron Cards a whiile back as now have Barclay's in favour of an "electronic", or "controlled", version of a standard Visa Debit card without the cheque guarantee facility (and I think more are planned). I know a few banks issue them on their basic bank accounts including Halifax/Bank of Scotland and the Co-op, and neither do a full credit check just an "enquiry", it does look at your whole file but is not see by other lenders or as a search for credit (if that makes sense), so having lots of them would not have an impact on a credit score using the number of searches made in say, the last 6 months. Hope you find this useful. Is this surcharge payable on a Maestro and SOLO Card too? As if not I would imagine in your position the banks that issue them would be happy to give you one, and NatWest issue a SOLO card on a savings account. James0

Thanks, I have just looked at the airlines website again and it seems that there is a charge for all cards less the electron. I do bank with Lloyds, so I will have to look at opening a new account with another bank to enable me to get an electron card... keep you all posted.0
