Unable to switch current account

Apologies if this is the wrong forum.

I used the switching service because I wanted to move from RBS to a Halifax account (and take advantage of the £100 offer). However, Halifax have told me I cannot switch because I have an 'RBS One account'.

Does this mean I cannot use the switching service to move to *any* bank? I'm stuck on what to do at the moment and I'm quite new to banking.

Yes, the One account isn't a standard current account, it's an offset product (usually) secured against property and isn't compatible with the switching service.

However, if you want to take advantage of the Halifax switching bonus, there's nothing to stop you opening a normal current account with RBS (or anyone else) and switching that instead.
  • Thanks very much for the reply. I have an instant saver account with RBS, do you think switching to Halifax from this will work?

It will work if your instant saver account is a current account, which it isn't, so it won't.
  • Hello,

I already switch my account to halifax last year, they pay me the £100.
Can I switch to another bank after one year with halifax or I will need to pay back the £100?

    Thanks!
