Samsung tablet

Hiya,
In February 2013 I purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. It came with a 2 year warranty.
In April, it stopped working - it got stuck on the splash screen and would not do anything else. I had never dropped it, it had never been water damaged, it just stopped working.
I took it to the local Samsung shop. They tried an Iris flash (Isis flash? something like that). This didn't work, and I was not charged. They said I should send it off to Samsung to see if they could do anything.
I did this, and I was quoted £63.30 for assessment of the tablet. Long story short there was a lot of miscommunication on the part of both Samsung customer service and the repair center, with Samsung initially telling me that I shouldn't be charged for assessment even though the tablet is out of warranty.
But it turned out that the £63.30 would include software repair and battery if that was the issue.
So I paid the money reluctantly, aware that the repair center would not refund this money if they could not fix the tablet.
Today I got an email from the delivery company that my tablet would be arriving today.
I have not heard from the repair company, and had to call them up to find out what had happened. They said I should have had an email about it.
Anyway, they couldn't fix it.
Two months out of warranty, and my tablet is completely unuseable. Because I have looked after it and not dropped it or anything, it isn't covered on my insurance. I am absolutely LIVID. If it had been a year out of warranty then sure whatever. but TWO MONTHS.
I am going to write to Samsung and ask for at least the £63 back, but what rights do I have regarding the actual tablet? What should I ask for and what is reasonable? I have no idea where to even start, I'm just utterly at a loss that this has even happened. Two months out of warranty. I cannot believe it. And the communication has been utterly abysmal on top of that.
Any advice/suggestions would be very welcome.

If there is an inherent fault that causes the tablet to crash on the splash screen then you will be covered under SoGA - can you ask Samsung for a report from the repair centre. This may show what caused the issue and work for you.0
