First Time Renting

Me and my boyfriend are moving out for the very first time into our own 1 bed flat. Besides being very excited we are both a little scared as to what we need to do and sort out before we move in as neither of us have even done this before. We are due to collect the keys next Wednesday evening and plan to move in on Thursday. It's an unfurnished flat so we will need to buy some bits like a sofa, tv unit, wardrobes being the main ones that we will need from day one. We have a bed and matress so at least we won't be sleeping on the floor!

We are just looking for some general tips, someone to point us in the right direction to guide us through the moving in process. Also any places we can get good, cheap furniture would be helpful!

Congrats on your new flat!

On getting the keys, take meter readings, check that you agree with the inventory, take pictures of everything.

Get in touch with council, energy suppliers, etc.

For cheap furniture, try freecycle, gumtree, ebay, a local facebook group, charity shops like british heart foundation, emmaus. (though factor in the delivery!). I'd also put a cheeky note on facebook "if anyone hears of a cheap x,y, z"... as you never know who might be getting ready to treat themself to an upgrade of something, and be happy to give away the old one.
