Boots will not refund a product that i find too risky to use...

as i am against parabens in products as from i have heard they are cancerous after buying a product from boots (similar to protect and perfect) which i did not open but just saw what was in the ingredients when i got home i decided to bring it back. but boots have a policy where you cannot return products as they may have been tampered with - even though i could show them that i did not use the product. do consumers have any comeback in this situation? i know it is only £10 but it is still £10 out of my pocket when could be buying a more natural option for me!

Unless the product was sealed, I think they are within their rights to refuse a refund. I wouldn't like to buy a product that someone else had taken back.

Better to look at the ingredients before buying in future.

If you say you are allergic they will take it back...or at least they always have with me.

If you're so against parabens perhaps you should check products before you buy them? Legally, no retailer has to give you a refund for any product unless faulty (and an allergic reaction does not mean it's faulty!) but some retailers (inc Boots) have a more generous policy. However, with cosmetic items (make up/face creams etc) they won't take back because they can't re-sell them. Would you want to buy a face cream that someone else had had taken home already? I know I wouldn't.

Also, despite all the scare stories about parabens, there's no sound scientific reasoning to suggest that they increase cancer risks.

I don't think it's possible to avoid everything that is supposedly carcinogenic (lots and lots of foods are (milk, tomato pips, anything that's been cooked, arguably, never mind beauty products).

I see on another thread you ask about Liz Earle products.

I'm an avid user of her stuff, but it does contain parabens (and lots of them).

I heard Tesco brought out a range of paraben free beauty stuff, but as I refuse to step foot in a Tesco I haven't checked it out.

I also agree that you should have checked the ingredients before buying....i'm allergic to a couple of things and so check before i buy-i wouldn't expect a refund for something like this-as the ingredients are on the packet/bottle etc.

We are surrounded by potentially dangerous chemicals.
I'd just use the product and then check ingredients more carefully in the future.
I don't think Boots owe you a refund.

Imagine my surprise when the Mazda dealership I bought may car at last year refused to refund my money and take the car back.

I had to look up parabens as well!!
