    Hello everyone!

Well, after a bright start to the day, it is now pouring with rain!

    My day so far:

Managed a 2 mile walk with dog in the dry.

Walked to veg garden (still not bike wheel sorted out) & picked a few broad beans & yet more courgettes. Good job I have some nice courgette recipes! I have a good one for courgette pickle if anyone is interested. Hardly any cooking involved.

Walked home via charity shops & bought a large piece of brand new cotton material for 50p which I will try & resell on eBay. Also got 3 tumblers for a total of £1, as I have been breaking mine lately. They were wrapped in a large piece of bubble wrap which I can reuse.

Called in at the Coop & they had tinned grapefruit in juice reduced from 82p to 12p, as use by end July. Bought 6 of these, so breakfast sorted for a few days.

Got home to find a free sample of coffee delivered with post.

If the rain carries on into the afternoon, I have decided to sort out my recipe folders. They were originally in some sort of a system, but have all overflowed into a muddle. Major clear out required!

I was planning a supermarket shop this afternoon & incorporating it into a visit to the cycle repair shop 12 miles away, but might put that off till tomorrow.

Ally - So sorry to hear about your job. Have you ever thought about setting up something on your own? I was chatting to a lady this morning whose son was out of work and he has set up a dog walking service. He is very busy, even staying in some people's houses while they are away. We live in a rural area where you would think there was no call for this kind of thing, but there obviously is as there are at least 2 other people that I know of doing the same thing.

Bob - Just responding to your answer to my query as to whether you did the baking in your cafe. I didn't realise that you had no other help (except for your wonderful OH!). No wonder you say sometimes that you come home exhausted! When I took over running the cafe where I worked on top of the 'day job', I was promised that I would have help in the office - unsurprisingly, that didn't materialise & I would often be back there in the evenings getting payroll, VAT returns etc done in my own time. In one way I was relieved when the company was taken over after 12 months of this, & I could go back to my 'proper' job. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge & much preferred running the cafe to running the office!

ally just read yesterday's post. Hope you're ok. Will you be able to get JSA/HB while you're out of work? (although from my recent experience of this I understand how difficult that can be)

I remember when this happened to you the last time. Are you able to start looking for other jobs that are permanent? x

I'm ok, thanks. :D I shed a few light tears of frustration as I drove away from work today but not too many! ;)

I'll be eligible for benefits as technically my 9 month contract came to an end after 9 months as a promised extension of a few months didn't materialise. (It's all very technical and complicated, I won't bore you.)

As for the future....I don't know what I'm going to do yet. OH and I are going to spend all day tomorrow planning what we are going to do next.

    Thank-you.

I did own a restaurant business a few years ago, and my OH was self-employed until recently, but I need a predictable, reliable source of regular income ideally. I would sooner be an employee. I also have almost zero capital at the minute for a business venture.

    Afternoon DFW-Devotees,

So, my work contract finished at 1pm today and now I'm at home having a quiet afternoon, jotting down ideas on a sheet of paper for the next steps. I refuse to let this drag me down. :j We are going to have to go back to pinching every penny, oh well, we've done it before, we'll just have to do it again.

    Nillionaire Month Two:

:grinheart Didn't stop at the shop on the way home to buy something to cheer myself up even though I really felt like it. Might bake something later instead from stores.

:grinheart Watching a DVD from our collection.

    Offers:

:grinheart 25p off Tesco's ice-cream. Cheapest eligible ice cream is currently on sale for £1. (Link)

:grinheart £1 off goats' milk. Scroll down the page for details. (Link)

    Freebies:

:grinheart Free Whiskas Kitten kit. (Link)

:grinheart 50 free photos. I think you have to pay the P&P though. (Link)

:grinheart Win free Batiste Shampoo? (Link)

:grinheart Free Vision Express contact lenses. (Link)

:grinheart Free dog micro-chipping. All UK dogs must be chipped by April 2016. (Link)

:grinheart Free children's entry to Warwick Castle. (Link)

Good luck with your Devotions, Devotees.

PS. Have decided to de-clutter and deep clean the kitchen tomorrow. I am quite minimalist, and the kitchen has gone maximalist! Who knows what treasures I'll find. It looks beautifully tidy...until you open the cupboards. Need to do a full audit of what foods we have.

That sucks, Ally, I hope something better turns up.

Not much moneysaving going on here today as I bought a sandwich and crisps of lunch but I wasn't overly hungry so have saved half of each for tomorrow so hopeful that will be a NSD.

Work is really slow at the moment as my boss is still away and is now out of email contact until next week. I have volunteered to help out on some of the other titles but they are similarly slow.

I need to book off next Tuesday also as my son has his theory driving test. DH was going to take him but things are really fraught between them at the moment and I need to stop putting work before my son. I actually needed to do that 14 years ago instead of going back to work the minute he went to school but too late now :(

I registered an interest with the EA about the house we looked at but said I wasn't going to commit to an offer until mine is sold in case something else comes up but asked how wedded to the price they are. (They paid £315k for it a year ago and want +£365k now.) The EA said it went on at £395k and they have already dropped the price which means nothing, I don't believe their house increased in price by £80k (25%) in a year!

I picked up a free pack of Viola seeds which I will plant out in all the gaps in my pots tonight.

Have a good day everyone :)

Sorry to hear that things aren't good between your son and your husband FVD, and great that you are going to support him to take his driving test :) but really, don't beat yourself up for going back to work when he started school. You probably had to, same as I did - most people have to go back much earlier now, when their child is 6 or 12 months old :(
