No Debts & No Credit!

I had a tough time a few years ago and had several CCJs. I worked hard to pay them all back and the last CCJ was cleared from my credit report last August. My credit file is now clean and my rating is 612 and in the green again. However, the only credit I get accepted for anywhere are payday loans. As you all know these are very expensive and not a long term solution to my borrowing needs.

Can anyone advise how I can get credit that does not have a % payback rate with more than 2 zeros on the end?? I really don't want to end up back at square one again having worked so hard to get here and clear everything!

Any help much appreciated. Thank you.

a massive red flag to a lot of lenders, which has damaged your credit gaining ability until they drop off.

Credit file clean? Doesn't the CCJ stay on there for 6 years?

Ignore the scores the agencies sell you, they are meaningless to lenders because they do not use it or even see it.

Saving rather than borrowing for things is one option and it's interest free!

To get credit without lots of zeros at the end I'd wait and apply again in 5 1/2 years.
  • OK so clearly some of you on here think you are above everyone else. Let me make one thing absolutely clear - I came on here for advice. If you haven't got any good advice to give - then please don't bother wasting your time replying.

As I have already stated, the last CCJ was removed from my credit file last August and my credit file is now CLEAN. I have ZERO debt and a score of 612.

This score is obviously still not good enough to receive STANDARD credit so my question is quite simple - what companies or credit cards can I apply for that offer high acceptance rates to help further build up my credit rating.

Now this question is going out to those who can actually help, not the keyboard warriors above who clearly think they hold some kind of authoritative stature by trolling this forum.

Thank you in advance to all the HELPFUL people on here (of which I'm sure there are many!!) :)

Have you read this article about credit builder cards?
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/bad-credit-credit-cards

Did you apply for a credit card from your own bank, one you have a decent history with?
Although your credit file might be clean, the banks you borrowed from before and gave you a CCJ will still know about those debts, so you might want to avoid banks you have a bad history with.

As it stands you have no lines of credit, so creditors can't see how you manage your finances.

The best way is to start with a credit builder card (mentioned above) and pay it off in full every month (no interest to pay). This will show any future creditors that you are a safe bet. Once you've had your credit builder card for 6 months to 1 year you should be able to start applying for mainstream cards with 0% interest periods etc.

Your score is of no use in financial matters, no lender can see it, its about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

I think my advice was both useful and prudent.

As I have already stated, the last CCJ was removed from my credit file last August and my credit file is now CLEAN. I have ZERO debt and a score of 612.
As has been explained to you - your score is useless. It is a randomly made up number sold to you by CRA's.

This score is obviously still not good enough to receive STANDARD credit so my question is quite simple - what companies or credit cards can I apply for that offer high acceptance rates to help further build up my credit rating.
Your history is key to how lenders view you. The longer your record of managing your finances properly the more favourably lenders will view you.

This is an open forum and, as such attracts all types of individuals. Some may be more blunt than others in their responses but often the point they are making is based on a valid viewpoint. Use the information on offer and don't take it personally - however it is presented.

  • Thank you for the advice those of you that did help in a sane, sensible and coherent manner - namely stator and george.

The rest of you unhelpful idiots, I hope the CCJ fairy pays you a visit so we can offer you the same crappy advice when you need it. :p
