Universal Credit Vs CTC

Hi there i was claiming UC for 1 week whilst i was out of work and recieved 1 payment from them within a month when i started a job, but got no more payments as they said i was earning too much now. Anyways my circumstances changed so phoned them to say i wanted to claim as a couple with 1 child. They said i wouldnt be entitled to any money which i thought was wrong as i should get CTC and CB?? So i cancelled my UC claim and have recently put in a claim for CTC and CB but i dont think that is correct if i live in a UC area?? Im super confused and i think they are too because they seem to not have a clue.

Please any advice??

If you were claiming Universal credit my understanding is that your claim should remain open for six months after you ceased receiving any money from them, if this change of circumstances is within that period you need to tell Universal Credit of the changes, your claim should remain open. If this change is more than six months after you stopped receiving payments from UC then it is correct that you claim CB and tax credits.

Child benefit will be claimed separately whether you claim UC or not.

Yes that was my understanding as well. Pity no one has actually told the people who work in UC this. Why did they say that we wouldnt be entitled to any UC then? I have made the new claim to CTC which now im sure will be rejected??
