THAT's what I'm trying to work out.

A standard branded liquid cost about 35 pence/wash down to about 20 pence on promotion.

I'd be more than happy to spend more for a better wash. I'd estimate that the saving is about £40/year using the branded liquid on promotion compared to UltraPhase. Compare that to the cost of the clothes being washed and its negligible.

I can find nothing on the internet that gives an honest/unbiased review of UltraPhase hence my original post.

Asda do daz and ariel tabs for 15p each sometimes as low as 12p

UltraPhase is probably made by a well known washing detergent manufacturer

I use the W5 brand washing liquid - half a capful, plus two measures of washing soda. Every mark is removed from both lights and darks. Each wash costs me pennies.

These capsules are a complete rip-off - along with "stain removing" agents. Washing soda looks after your machine by softening the water, which in turns means being able to use half the recommended liquid.

I always use liquid in my machine rather than powder because sometimes in the past there have been traces of powder marks left on clothes! No chance with a liquid.

Liquid detergents do tend to leave a build-up in the machine though if you don’t do the odd hot wash.

I assume they are referring to soda crystals. Depends where you buy them from but from about 85p for a kilo packet.

Do watch out though it does go in a massive lump if exposed to the air for too long. Also good with vinegar and hot water to clean out sink wastes that get a bit manky.
