Just Googled Ultra Phase and CapDos and they seem to be specially for certain Miele machines. I hadn't heard of them either, and tbh I wouldn't think many people without a new Miele machine would have done.

Sadly you may not get much useful feedback :(

Thanks, I don't see having a Miele and money saving to be mutually exclusive. Factoring in the life of a Miele with the with TwinDos (no more putting too much detergent in the wash) and A+++ energy rating and there are good savings to be made. The lady that comes around to do the ironing has said it's far far easier and quicker to do because of machines steam function than from an ordinary machine. Again savings on the ironing.

Anyway I ask about UltraPhase as Miele are doing a triple pack with a 20% discount for £57.56 down from £71.94. Again a good saving to be made.

That's not a saving. Each cartridge last an average 30-50 washes...let's say 40 washes. Your triple pack will then do 120 washes at a cost per wash of 48 pence per wash. You can cut that down quite a lot by using any other brand of washing liquid you can find in the supermarket.

It's just a detergent. There's plenty of good products available.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

THAT's what I'm trying to work out.

A standard branded liquid cost about 35 pence/wash down to about 20 pence on promotion.

I'd be more than happy to spend more for a better wash. I'd estimate that the saving is about £40/year using the branded liquid on promotion compared to UltraPhase. Compare that to the cost of the clothes being washed and its negligible.

I can find nothing on the internet that gives an honest/unbiased review of UltraPhase hence my original post.

What does "a better wash" look like?

Years ago I played around with the amount of washing powder I used. Essentially halving and halving and halving the recommended dosage until I saw a problem and then going back up one level.

I ended up using about 1/8 the recommended dosage which gets clothes perfectly clean. For two of us (plus a mad dog and a whole host of filthy running kit) we use about 1 kg a month. That makes our calculations easy: buy when a decent brand is below 2€/kg and make sure there's one bag in the store.

Obviously YMMV but those costs look painful to my budget.

A while back I spend 3 weeks with friends after a close relative spent time in hospital.

They had a cheap Beko (£200ish) and used whatever was cheap/value detergent. Within a couple of washes I could feel the difference in my clothes. Was it the detergent or a poor wash/rinse cycle...

Possibly the way your friends washed their clothes

My hubby lived with a landlady and we learned never to pack any whites what so ever as she washed everything on the same cycle and everything was tumble dried - no matter how hot and windy it was outside

Washing machines, no matter the price, come with numerous cycles. Its picking the right cyclce for the clothes that gives the best wash

Im old fashioned. I still do sheets and towels at 60, I still do dishcloths and tea towels at 90 and I still separate my whites. A big box of persil will last around 8 months as I never use as much as they suggest and if I see there is still soap showing on the final spin, they get another rinse
  • For anyone else searching twindos. You can use any other liquid detergent and separate liquid fabric conditioner. You need the refillable cartridges and to adjust the settings on the washer.

I have a new miele machine and am finishing off my normal washing powder, miele sent me 6 months supply of dos liquids. I have used dos just once and got a fantastic result. I will be using twindos in the future. The machine regulates the amount to the amount of washing in the machine. Twindos is a combination of two washing liquids, colours and whites. Not conditioner
