Holiday Cancellation

Hello, im looking for some advice.

My sister was due to give birth on the 13th August, so we decided as my parents need some time out to treat them to a holiday before they become grandparents.
We booked for a package holiday which departs on Friday however after some complications my sister is now also being induced this Friday.

Understandably my parents dont want to go on holiday as they want to be here for my sister but if they dont go, we will lose our money.

Does any one know how we can get a refund or delay the holiday at little cost?

the T&Cs of the holiday should details the costs to make changes at this stage
It may also be worth your parents checking their travel insurance to see whether it may cover them cancelling

It will be 100% cancellation charges in the week before departure and it is too late to do name changes at this stage. Insurance is the only possibility but this is really disinclination to travel which is not normally covered by insurance and she is not 'ill' as such and any insurer is likely to say if you book a holiday 3 weeks before a birth, you do so at your own risk. The only way I could see there being any cover is if they declared that the holiday was dependent on the health of their pregnant daughter and although I do believe in miracles, I think you will need one in this case
  • Too late for amendments or refunds. Insurance is not going to cover for someone changing their mind about travelling. The only chance is if they've had their policy endorsed stating that they're covered for cancellation in the event of their daughter giving birth early. Obviously they would have had to have declared the pregnancy as a pre existing condition of a non travelling relative for this to happen.
