Used Eligibility checker but confused and can't take a chance getting rejected!

Hi all,

I wonder if you could please help me.

I have used the eligibility checker and am thinking of 0% with either M&S (19 months) or Virgin (24 months) but am confused because it says on the checker that they are "ranked in order of likelihood of acceptance" but several of them are the same percentage - so if the M&S and Virgin are the same percentage, how do I know which I should apply for as I can't risk getting rejected and having no card at all.

Is there any way of finding out which you have the best chance of getting?

Thank you for your help!

It means you have a similar chance on each.

One search isn't the end of the world - pick one and see what happens. You could then try another if needed.

Look to see if any of the cards have their own pre-application eligibility checkers.

It is *sometimes* worth taking the Eligibility Checker with a pinch of salt.

I was quoted a 20% chance of acceptance with the Santander 123 MasterCard; I applied and got a decent limit too.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

I had 0% chance at Amex Platinum. Got instantly approved with £3000 limit.

I wouldn't take much notice of eligibility checkers (unless by the same provider). If you have a good credit history with not a lot of debt (or mountains of unused credit compared to open) then I would say you have a good shot.

Why not? It's not the end of the world.

Maybe they have applied for credit and have been refused twice in the past few weeks.

Generally they say you should do more than 3 application in a few months period, as it makes you look desperate.

So if this is the third application and it's refused it's likely to be game over, for any more applications for a few months at least.

Could be. In which case the OP may be approaching a situation where they are financially stressed. If that is so perhaps they need to be taking a different view of their financial situation and trying to avoid additional borrowing.

There's a checker on the Barclaycard site (I know this isn't one of the options you were looking at), but I did the Barclaycard soft check earlier today, got a "Very Good Chance" result so applied and got the card.

SO it might be worth having a look at their checker and just see what it comes back with.

Worth noting that the M&S and Virgin cards will (probably?) have more stringent checks than the likes of Capital 1, Barclaycard etc (I THINK)
