Carers Allowance - Holiday Pay from old job

Hi all

Have a question regarding carers allowance.

I was signed off work sick in July last year. Received SSP until mid Feb this year, at which point I applied for and was denied ESA.

In March I was asked/forced to resign from my job

Beginning of April I received a payment of approx. £400 from my then ex employer for holiday pay accrued during my time on SSP and before.

Received award letter for my sons DLA end of April, backdated to beginning of March, so I cancelled my ESA claim and put in a claim for carers allowance from beginning of March.

Recently received decision letter awarding me my CA, but starting from May not March, they say due to earning too much in April, I assume because of the holiday pay. My only income in April other than the holiday pay is rental income of approx. £4700 a year (£90 a week).

My question is, should they have counted the holiday pay, accrued over a 9 month or so period, all as earned income in April or not?

Thanks

Cas
