Roof Lead Flashing Problem

Hello,
We have had some flashing added on our roof, as we had a leak. I have uploaded a photo at http://s18.postimg.org/4qcm6q73t/Roof.jpg .
The roofer put lead mastic where the lead meets the tiles in order to seal this. However, he didn't do the bit I have circled. I have tested the roof with a hose and the water can still get in through this area, although the area where the mastic is seems ok.
If we ask him to put lead mastic in the circled area, will this be sufficient and last for a good time? Also, I have read about secret gutters on http://www.fixmyroof.co.uk/install-roof-flashings/step-flashing/ . We don't have one of these, so any water that beats the flashing would end up inside. Do you think we need to have one installed?

I would suggest that a soaker has slipped down the roof (shown on your photograph at the top of your red circle) having slipped it no longer masters the joint between the two slates over it and is allowing water in, which prbably runs under the lead apron of the valley gutter. Get that soaker pushed back up so it is in line with the edge of the slates and fix it , mastic the edge if necessary. Step flashing is not your problem ,the existing flashing tucked into the render is OK.You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

Why not ask the roofer if he is willing to come back to check this out for you?0

Your situation is not helped by the absence of a gutter on the left hand roof. Couple this with a minimal slate overhang and you will be getting a wet wall. Think of winds blowing the drips back into the wall. This will find its way through any cracks , hollowness or porous areas in your render. It will also be splashing up that wall making adding to the wetness.
Of course your render may be perfect, but the construction detailing is not good practice.0
