Just buy a cheap piece of 6mm glass. Any glazier will cut it to size and smooth the edges for you. Then rest it on toy bricks or Lego or spacers of your choice. How about 1" diameter perspex tube cut to size? Or painted toilet rolls or cut down water bottles. (I've probably watched too much "Blue Peter" in my youth!
