Bid Retractions!!!

Hi there,

I have several things listen on ebay, quite new to it all, but i'm selling well and stick firmly to the rules!

I had someone bid on one of my CD's, with 5 days left - it was a Billie Piper CD so i was happy as it meant it was going!

However, they then retracted the bid, just a day later, saying "cannot contact the seller".

I am not so bothered about the retraction, I could almost understand it, but to retract your bid for the reason of "cannot contact the seller" is actually quite insultive - i'm very contactable on ebay, and have had no communications since.

I tried emailing the person to no avail. I then went through what I think is the official process and reported it to ebay, on the grounds of the reason.

What annoys me too, is that this person has perfect 100% feedback, but has had 4 bid retractions in the last 6 months - i wonder what reason he used on those??

IS there anything else I can do? Has anyone experienced this?

Thank you for your help!

It's one of those things that just happen unfortunately and there is nothing you can do about it.

Reporting the buyer to ebay will at least have flagged a problem with them, but 4 retractions is not enough for ebay to do anything. I had one last year with 90 bid retractions in 6 months and all they got was a warning from ebay!

As for the reason selected, buyers only have a choice of three or four 'reasons' when retracting a bid, none of them are due to buyer changing their mind. Most just go for the first one on the basis that none really apply. If you want you can always now block the bidder from placing more bids on any of your auctions.

BTW, if you are selling anything by Billy Piper I hope you have Dr Who in the title somewhere? You might have a whole new fan base from youngsters who have seen her as Rose and can't now get her deleted albums..it's worth a try <s>

I had someone outbid me on an item a few days back and then he withdrew his bid. Rather than ebay returning the "current bid" back to what it was before the guy bidded, it left it as the highest amount i was prepared to pay for the item.

For Example... I was winning the item at £2 but was happy to pay £10 for the item. Other guy bids £12 so is winning. Withdraws his bid, and the current price is now £10.

Surely that isnt fair? Or am I mistaken?

I don't understand the £2 bid increment from £10 to £12.... Should it not be £1?

    Anyway... Either...

    a) £10 is the reserve.
    b) There is another bidder bidding approx £9.
    c) I'm not thinking straight.

Ah, i meant £10->£11, not £12, but it doesnt make any difference. There wasnt any other bidders and no reserve.

That's strange, it should have reverted to your minimum bid. :(

I guess the only 'bid' that was retracted was his final £11 bid. Effectively his £9 bid still stood, so that's why you had to pay £10. Although I agree it doesn't seem very fair!

Also, thinking about it, that would be a sneaky way for an unscrupulous seller (with a second Ebay account) to get more money out of you...?

There is a bug in their bidding system which they are aware off and have done nothing about. Obviously because they get more in fees this way

I agree with roses about a bug in the bidding system.I bid on an item that had a couple of hours to go and thought I'd watch it and bid higher later if i needed to.I was the only bidder on it.Then we decided to go out so I went back and put my max bid in,as soon as I done that my own winning bid went higher!!?? I was only person bidding on it but it added £1 as if I was bidding against someone else.....
