My present computer has

Gigabyte GA-H61M-S2PV motherboard
Intel i3-3250 CPU
AMD Radeon HD 6670 graphics card
4.00 GB RAM
256 GB SSD drive.

This is getting palmed off to my wife as she had a slight accident with her own computer.

What would you replace it with to be faster and better?

£300 + whatever I can get away with.

I just need a motherboard, processor, memory and SSD drive, I have all the other parts I need.

movie editing - better processor i5 quad core should see a reasonable increase £150 ish

cheap motherboard as the £150 ish i5 processors will not allow overclocking so £30-40 ish

gaming - new graphics card nVidia GTX 750 ti or AMD R7 360 both for under £100

    4gb ram for £20, 8gb for £40

should all come in within your £300 budget, and give a decent power increase for video editing and gaming, other usage will not show any real difference

just re read your OP, noticed you indicate you have a graphics card, so use the £100 for a SSD/storage combination

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
