The Reds are indigenous. Greys are an American import.

    How are you attracting them?
They're coming because something is drawing them.

If netting is not an option then repellents and dogs are probably your only solution.

If you kill or relocate them, others will move into their territory. They scout a big distance and they will find you if there's something tasty on offer.

You cannot relocate a grey squirrel, it is illegal to release them.

Why does the OP want to kill squirrels, what are they doing to your garden that gives them a death sentence? :(

Would love to know also whats attracting them and what the pest element of it is?

We'd rats coming close to our kitchen window but it was because we were feeding the birds too close to the house.

I dont think the rats would have been intelligent enough to know that if we popped off the odd one or two with a air gun then they shouldnt come near the house.

I suspect squirrels would be the same - bearing in mind theres probably significantly more than one

I was thinking they are putting nuts out for the birds and the squirrels are eating them.

Apparently they're quite tasty - with a nutty flavour.

You still havent said what the problem is and how killing one or two is going to stop others?

As i said with the rat problem we had, it was easier to remove the source of their interest, than trying to remove the rats themselves - given others would just come.

    They are classed as vermin.

    Was looking in to that.

Apparently their classification as vermin comes from the "Destructive Imported Animals Act, 1932" and relates purely to their impact on the Red Squirrel community, not for any reason like disease carrying, etc.
