Job offer to start in 2 months - how will ESA be affected?

Question for a friend......He was offered last week to start in September. Currently receiving ESA / Council Tax allowance and was studying (job centre knew this) and the qualifications obtained have resulted in a job offer that he is capable of even with his illness.
He is scared that if he tells the job centre now they will stop benefits straightaway as he is now fit to work (albeit in a niche job not available till September) yet he will not receive first pay cheque till mid September. Is this right? Or will he receive benefits until first pay cheque?
Any help appreciated! The excitement of getting his life back in order is being dampened by the worry of not being able to pay rent over the summer.
THanks

He only needs to inform DWP when the job actually starts. Many things could change between now and the beginning of September.0

In addition, if the job is under 16h NMW, he may still be entitled to ESA in some cases.0
