Garden Hose from Washing Machine Connection

Hi all. I live in a terrace house and don't currently have an outside tap. I'm getting turf laid soon so need to be able to water it so that it doesn't die
I was thinking one of two things. Either to get a Hoselock kitchen tap adaptor which screws on to the kitchen tap and allows me to connect a hose, or adapt the washing machine connection so that the single cold water feed can be split using some kind of Y splitter then attaching two on/off taps to the ends so that the washing machine can be isolated on one and a Hoselock adaptor can be attached to the other and isolated when no hose is connected.
Do you know if the latter idea is possible, and if so what parts I'll need to buy? I like the simplicity of the first option, but I have a feeling I'll use that then end up with a flooded kitchen when the connector falls off the kitchen tap!

What about one of these? (lower middle one)
Then one of these to allow the hose to be connected.0 -
Better a flood over the kitchen sink than a flood round behind the (working) washing machine.
It shouldn't be too difficult to put in a "proper" T junction in the copper pipe, if you can get at it.0 -

Thanks for the replies. I've looked at the outdoor tap kits before but when reading some reviews I was warned about the self boring taps (that they eventually die and flood the house).
I feel that I would trust the blue/red valves that Rolandtheroadie posted pics of. I have one of these under my sink for a hot water feed that isn't being used and that hasn't broken and flooded the kitchen, yet.0 -
You shouldn't be using washing machine valves for hose pipes. Under eater Zregulations you need a check valve/back flow preventer. Thats why you should do the job properly and get a proper tap fitted with a check valve.
The way you propose will be a right pigs ear.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
I would suggest doing a proper job.
Turn stop !!!! off.
Cut mains water pipe and remove a piece big enough for a tee like below.

Drill a hole through the wall to outside big enough for a 15mm pipe and put it through to the front facing tee.
Fit a tap like this one.

With a compression nut and olive.

Or use one of these in place of the compression but and olive.

I'd definitely use a regular sink tap for that .... washing machine connections are much less robust and all that on/off/on/off of the pipes could end up in a kitchen flood when you pop out into the garden and leave the machine running.
You know where you are with a proper tap and turning it on/off.0
