Share offer

Hi all,

I would appreciate some advice on what to do with some shares I hold. The company I hold shares in is facing a Takeover and I have been offered a price for my shares. If I do nothing what happens? Do I lose my holding or does my broker (Barclays) automatically accept it and pay me the share price into my account? What are the risks with holding onto the shares and doing nothing? Should I just accept?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

    Hi Rich,

There is no simple answer, depending on what the company is, what the other company is (that's trying to takeover), the current share price, the proposed takeover share price, your circumstances etc etc...

If you do nothing, your shares will do whatever the outcome turns out to be (this will be voted by current shareholders etc). If the takeover goes ahead, you will probably receive in one way or another; new shares & maybe some cash.

    Hope this helps.

As a shareholder in the company you should be issued with documentation explaining what's happening and facts and figures to support the decision you need to make, so you'll need to refer to that for further details (you may not have received this yet).

Or you could let us know what company it is and people on here can offer comments based on information that's in the public domain....
