Anyone know the cheapest place I can get a certificate that will make the URL bar go green for multiple subdomains?

eg https://www.robatwork.com, online.robatwork.com, marsbars.robatwork.com etc.

My ISP can give me a certificate for multiple subdomains OR a certificate that will give me the "green" version for a single address but not for multiple.

thanks

  • You need a Wildcard SSL certificate, check PositiveSSL and RapidSSL.

The rules ban a wildcard EV (extended validation) certificate, it is possible to get an EV cert that covers a limited set of multiple domains however.

EV certs require a certain amount of proof you a legitimate company, which is why they disallow the wildcard so you can just farm off your cert.

If you are not too desperate for the sub-domain certificates right now...

Their will be a new Certificate authority launching in September 14th that issues Domain Certificates for free.

    https://letsencrypt.org/

you can then create a Cert for every sub-domain.

It's unlikely to be whitelisted by most browsers since they give them away to anyone.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

Initial certs will be signed by a known CA. But it's backed by Google and Mozilla as well as other big infrastructure company's like Cisco.

The whole point of this CA if to open secure browsing and web services to everyone.
